Church of St Bartholomew, Orford

Market Hill
Orford
Suffolk
IP12 2LW
United Kingdom
OS Grid: TM4222649988 streetmap
LAT/LONG: 52.0952,1.5349

There is a remarkable font, in superb condition, which retains its dedicatory motto exhorting prayers for the dead, anathema to the sixteenth century reformers, and to the ignorant thugs who carried out the puritan terror a century later.
This church was the favourite of Benjamin Britten, and his church parables were first performed here, including the famous Noyes Fludde, a memorial sculpture to which stands near the south door. The Britten memorial itself is a great roundel in the floor at the west end.
